Week 10 - Wrap Up!
This whole lesson was a big discovery for me! As a new library employee I'm learning every day about the resources available. I really enjoyed learning about new resources that can be used to help not only the library patrons but my family as well. My son used to world book resource to find a science project topic that no one else in his class had found. I will now encourage patrons to use these resources for the research projects.

Lesson 9 - 5
This was kinda fun. I'm moving to Dell Rapids in a week. The house we are moving in was built in 1930 as of the 1927 map the location of our house was a church.
Lesson 9 - 4
Continuing to work on looking for information about my family and their early years in Minnesota I search census records for Minnesota I found the 1880 census where I think its my great great grand father is listed with his wife and five of their children. I may have to invite my dad to town to help me verify some information.
The site seems to be a bit slow at times.

Lesson 9 - 3
I have to agree with this error
Try adding a birth or death date; even a guess might help.
But it did return a list of professional baseball players and school yearbooks just on the first page.
Raleigh Aichison from South Dakota played for the Brooklyn Nationals the photo didn't have a year on it.
A little more information will give you better results.
Try adding a state, province or country in "Lived In (Residence)"Try adding a birth or death date; even a guess might help.

Lesson 9 - 2
I found the census register for 1940 at that time only four of my father's either sibblings were born.
I also found my grandfather's death certificate. I wasn't able to find my grand parents marriage certificate but I wanted to move on. I will probably play with this more when I have more free time.

Lesson 9 - 1
Upon searching for my married name in Ancestry the first return was me down to the apartment number.
I had to see what would happen if I put in my maiden name. I found information for both myself and my husband and the place of our marriage licence it even returned my father's name and my place of birth. Too Cool!

CAMIO
1. Paul Ravere
The Bloody Massacre was printed in a news article during the American revolution.
Teaspoon
Sugar bowl and cover
Spoon
Tea urn
Salver
Sons of Liberty Bowl
Teapot
Two handled covered bowl

there were just on the first page.
2. Sioux
63 works of art ranging from paintings to pieces of clothing and peace pipes.
3. Apparently Thomas Kinkade is not notable enough to be archived, or Terry Redlin
I found 1016 results for Pablo Picasso
4. How would this resource be used? Obviously art students would have the most use of this resource. Not sure how useful it would be in my community.
5. Very cool a great way to narrow down a list of artwork you may be comparing for a class.

Lesson 8 part 1
ArchiveGrid
1. From the ArchiveGrid description:
Notes and Summaries:
Sitting Bull, also known as Tatanka Iyotake or Tatanka Iyotanka or Ta-Tanka I-Yotan, was a Native American shaman and leader of the Hunpapa Sioux. He fought against the Crow Indians and was wounded in battle on several occasions. Sitting Bull greatly opposed the encroachment of the white men. He led Sioux and Cheyenne warriors against U.S. soldiers of the 7th Cavalry at the battle of Little Bighorn. After the battle, in which many were killed, Sitting Bull led his tribe into Canada, where they lived until surrendering to U.S. forces. After his capture he toured with Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. Sitting Bull was killed while resisting arrest for his unwillingness to abandon the traditions of the ritual Ghost Dance, which had been outlawed.
Autograph card and envelope for card.
Forms part of the Native American Collection. (NAC)
Digitized for the Vanished Worlds, Enduring People exhibition.
Preferred Citation: Sitting Bull autograph card, #9052. Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections, Cornell University Library.
2. Because I love the Ford Mustang I first typed that in the search but came back with nothing. I couldn't beleive it.
So I searched for Henry Ford, once you have your search choosen I think it's overwhelming looking through the list to find the exact information you are looking for. I had to open differant summaries to be sure they were about the same person.

Discovery Exercise part 2
The OAIster (pronounced “oyster”) database is one of the few mostly full text databases in WorldCat. Choose OAIster from the dropdown menu next to “Search in database.” In the “Keyword” search box, select “Subject Phrase.” In the search box, type South Dakota. Select one of your results. Click on the link next to “Access.” Add to your Lesson 7 blog posting by writing about your findings and your impressions of this tool.
No surprise here many of the articles are about agriculture.
I chose an article about how South Dakota is making the most of their transportation improvements, because of the bridge collapse that recently happened in Minnesota I thought this would be interesting. The article appears in pure text which makes it a bit difficult to read but it's nice if you are in need of the information right away.

Notice with the multi-volume titles, you can select which volume you look at. Discuss the title you selected and how you may use it.

2. Constitution Day is looming and several students need more material. Search EBooks on EbscoHost and recommend some appropriate titles.
This was a very interesting topic. I actually found myself lost in the debate between what is and is not constitutional. I will keep my opinions on this subject for another blog.
I had a hard time finding student appropriate articles like I said most articles were for or against some constitutional issue and not on the spacific day. After narrowing my search a bit I was able to find the following information. No results were found for Constitution Day 2013
